Wearing appropriate attire is plays a big role in the success of a dance student. Please review the following criteria for what is required for each class.
Preschool combo classes
- Tap/Ballet – Leotard/skirt sets (any color), tights. Shoes: Black tap shoes for tap, ballet shoes for ballet. No oversized tutus. Hair: ponytail, bun, or otherwise away from face.
- Jazz/Tumble- leotard, footless tights, shorts, no skirts. Shoes: jazz shoes for jazz, bare feet for tumble. Hair: pigtails or low ponytail
- For boys – shorts and a t-shirt with appropriate footwear
Ballet Girls: leotard, tights. For adults, a short skirt may also be worn over the leotard. Shoes: Ballet shoes. Hair: bun, bangs clipped back.
Ballet Guys: form fitting shirt and ballet tights, ballet shoes
Tap: Form fitting top, capris or shorts (Ankles need to be seen) No baggy dancewear. Full Sole Tap shoes and socks.
Jazz/lyrical/contemporary/musical theatre: Form fitting attire, including tights, leotard, bike shorts. Knees need to be visible. Jazz shoes for jazz, foot undeez/paws ok for lyrical/contemporary. Hair up and out of face.
Modern: crop tights, leotards, bike shorts, Knees need to be visible. Bare feet, hair up and out of face
Hip Hop: Clean street sneakers or dance sneakers that are not worn outdoors, and comfortable clothing- no skirts or jeans.
Flamenco: form fitting top, leotard, flamenco skirt preferable, flamenco shoes.
Accessories: Do not wear jewelry to class besides stud earrings or wedding rings. Dangle earrings/hoops can get caught in hair or get pulled, necklaces bounce around can break, and bracelets can fly off. Much of the time we will ask kids to remove jewelry in class and a majority of the time it ends up in lost and found. Just leave it at home or in a dance bag.
